EnrolNow automatically identifies children who may be eligible for Early Start Kindergarten (ESK) or Early Start Extension (ESE), and gives you a place to record your approval decision. This article covers how those fields work and how to manage the children they apply to. For the exact attributes and criteria behind the eligibility calculation, see Auto Calculated - TY - ESK / ESE Eligible.
The fields on the child record
Two pairs of fields support ESK/ESE management - one for this year (TY) and one for next year (NY):
- TY / NY - ESK / ESE Eligible - auto-calculated checkbox fields. They indicate whether a child meets the eligibility criteria for the relevant care period, based on the child's status and attributes. Because they're calculated, these fields can't be edited directly - they update automatically as the child's record changes. For the full criteria, see Auto Calculated - TY - ESK / ESE Eligible.
- TY / NY - ESK / ESE Approved - picklist fields you set yourself. Use these to record whether a child is approved for ESK or ESE, or No where they are not approved.
Reviewing eligible children
To see which children have been identified as eligible, use the Review ESK Eligible custom view on the Children tab. This gives you the list of eligible children in one place so you can review them and record an approval decision against each.
How the care period cutover affects these fields
The care period cutover process applies to the ESK fields. For example, where a child is approved for ESK for next year, that approval is automatically carried over when the new year rolls through — so the approval becomes the current-year value, and the next-year approval is cleared. This keeps each approval aligned to the correct care period without manual re-entry.
