The SMS opt-out feature allows recipients to unsubscribe from future SMS messages by replying STOP. When this happens, EnrolNow automatically updates the child record and prevents further messages from being sent to that contact.
Before you begin: You will need access to the SMS module in your EnrolNow CRM. If you cannot see this, contact EnrolNow Support.
Sending an SMS with opt-out enabled
When composing an SMS you will see an Allow opt-out toggle. Turn this on if you are sending a marketing or promotional message. This will automatically append the following to the end of your SMS:
To opt out, reply STOP
This toggle is not required for transactional messages such as booking confirmations or reminders.
Please test the SMS with an individual test child before sending a bulk SMS to make sure opt-out is behaving as expected.
What happens when a family replies STOP
Once the recipient replies STOP, EnrolNow will automatically update the child record to show they are opted out. You do not need to do anything — this happens within a few minutes of the reply being received.
SMS Opt Out | This field will appear on the child record once an opt-out is received. It indicates that SMS messages can no longer be sent to this contact. The field is updated automatically - no manual action is required. |
blocked sends | If you attempt to send an SMS to a child record that has opted out, the system will display a message to let you know and will block the send. This applies to both individual and bulk SMS sends. |
Removing an opt-out
If a family wishes to receive SMS messages again you can manually remove the opt-out on their child record.
Open the child record and toggle the SMS Opt Out field off. You will then be able to send SMS messages to that contact again.
Important: families cannot re-subscribe themselves via SMS reply. The opt-out can only be removed manually by a staff member with access to the child record.
Tips for using opt-out
- Always enable opt-out for marketing messages. This is required under SMS marketing regulations. Use it for promotional messages, offer reminders, and newsletters.
- Consider using the SMS module for transactional messages only. If you also send marketing SMS, consider using a separate channel for marketing so that opt-outs do not affect your transactional sends.
- SISO messages are not affected by opt-outs. Sign-in and sign-out notifications will continue to be delivered regardless of a family's opt-out status.
- Check the child record if a send is blocked. If the system prevents you from sending an SMS, open the child record and check whether the SMS opt-out field is toggled on.
