One-Way vs Two-Way Messaging

EnrolNow supports either one way or two way SMS.

  • One-Way SMS:  sends messages to your contacts without capturing or actioning replies. This works with both sender ID types.
  • Two-Way SMS captures replies back into the system so your team can see and respond to them. This requires a numeric sender ID — it cannot be enabled on alphanumeric sender IDs.

Which option is available as well as the end customer experience will depend on your Sender ID type — the name or number that appears as the sender on your recipients' phones.

Sender ID Types

Sender ID Type1-way SMS (no replies)2-way SMS (replies)
Alphanumeric (e.g. "SunshineELC")✅ Supported (replies technically impossible)
Displays your organisation's name. No real phone number is attached and therefore responses will not be possible.
❌ Not supported
There is no destination for a reply to route to. This is an SMS infrastructure limitation, not something that can be changed with a tech fix.
Numeric (virtual or dedicated mobile number eg. "0400 000 000")✅ Supported (replies possible but not surfaced)
  • EnrolNow platform allows for settings to be locked to 1-way SMS
  • Recommendation that NO REPLY be included at the end of messages for clarity to recipients
  • Replies may still arrive at the platform but will not be surfaced to your team unless two-way is enabled (this is an SMS infrastructure limitation
✅ Supported
  • EnrolNow platform allows for settings to be permit to 2-way SMS
  • Replies will be captured in the SMS Histories module and recorded against child records. Workflows can be configured to bring replies to the attention of team members
