Losing internet at your service doesn't stop you signing children in and out. SISO is built to keep running on the tablet even when the connection drops, so your day can carry on as normal. This article explains what keeps working offline, what pauses until you reconnect, and what happens once you're back online.
What keeps working offline
These everyday tasks run straight from the tablet and don't need internet to work. Everything you record is stored safely on the device and syncs automatically once you reconnect:
- Signing children in and out, for parents, authorised nominees and educators
- Head counts
- Sign in and sign out notes (for example pickup notes or extended care notes)
What pauses until you're back online
A few features need a live internet connection because they reach outside the tablet. While you're offline these are unavailable, and they'll be ready again the moment your connection returns:
- First time registration (PIN creation) for an educator, parent or auth nom (relies on SMS being sent)
- Multiple Devices remaining in sync with each other
- Sending SMS from the app
- In-app messaging and broadcasts
- Automatic attendance sync to the Department of Education (Arrival in Victoria and Digital Hub in NSW)
Because the app works from the information it last synced, very recent changes made elsewhere (such as a child added or updated in EnrolNow a few minutes earlier) may not appear on the tablet until it reconnects.
What happens when your connection returns
There's nothing you need to do to catch up. Once the tablet is back online:
- All sign in and sign out records captured while offline sync through automatically
- Attendance flows through to Arrival (VIC) or Digital Hub (NSW) as usual
- Messaging, broadcasts and SMS become available again
