Managing Age Eligibility and Priority

Overview
EnrolNow supports several different ways to manage age-related rules. These can help you:

  • Prevent ineligible registrations

  • Prioritise families who apply early

  • Understand who may be eligible for alternatives (e.g. deferrals)

Here’s a quick overview of the most common approaches:

1. Block applications based on Age (Form-Level Validation)

Families are prevented from submitting a form if their child is too young for the selected care period or program type.

Used for:

  • Preventing ineligible registrations
  • Clean data from the outset

2. Priority for Early Applicants (e.g. 2nd Birthday Logic)

You can assign higher priority to children who apply close to their second birthday.

Used for:

  • Prioritising families who apply early

3. Prioritise Older Children by Cutoff Date

Some services calculate a child's age as at a certain date to ensure older children are allocated first. Your cutoff date can be tailored to your region or policy – e.g. 1 Jan, 31 July, etc.

Used for:

  • Services that align to state-based rules (e.g. NSW priority for children based on their age as at 31 Jul in the year of attendance)
  • Services that want to prioritise older children (e.g. VIC priority based on 1 Jan age)
