A child's Pre-Prep Priority Cohort is automatically calculated in your system based on the child's attributes. Any time these are updated it will recalculate accordingly, ensuring their Pre-Prep Priority Cohort remains accurate.
You will find a child's Pre-Prep Priority Cohort in the following fields on the child record:
- TY - Pre Prep Priority Cohort
- NY - Pre Prep Priority Cohort
Important Note: These fields cannot be manually updated.
A child's Pre-Prep Priority Cohort will be calculated as P1 if they have any of the following attributes:
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
- Child or family known to child protection
- Current or Expired ImmiCard
- DE Exemption
- Living arrangement is any of the following:
- Formal Kinship Care
- Foster Care or Permanent Care
- Residential Care
- Informal Kinship Care
- ESK/ESE prior year
- For NY - Pre Prep Priority Cohort: If TY - ESK / ESE Approved is selected
- For TY - Pre Prep Priority Cohort: If Previous Funding contains ESK or ESE
- AEL prior year
- For NY - Pre Prep Priority Cohort: If TY - AEL Funding is selected
- For TY - Pre Prep Priority Cohort: If Previous Funding contains AEL
- Hold any one of the following Visas:
- Refugee visa (subclass 200)
- In-country Special Humanitarian visa (subclass 201)
- Global Special Humanitarian visa (subclass 202)
- Temporary Humanitarian Concern visa (subclass 786)
- Protection visa (subclass 866)
- Emergency Rescue visa (subclass 203)
- Woman at risk visa (subclass 204)
- Bridging visa A-E for humanitarian or refugee visa
- Temporary Protection visa (subclass 785)
- Safe Haven Enterprise visa (subclass 790)
A child's Pre-Prep Priority Cohort will be calculated as P2 if they have any of the following attributes:
- Health Care Card
- Pensioner Concession Card
- Triplets or Quadruplets
- Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Gold Card or White Card
The only way to change a child's Pre-Prep Priority Cohort, is by adding or removing any of the attributes mentioned above. Any changes made to these will trigger the automated calculation which will update the child's Pre-Prep Priority Cohort accordingly.
NOTE: As Pre-Prep is only effective from 2026 for 4 Year Old Kinder - at this stage, only the 'NY - Pre Prep Priority Cohort' field will be populated. From 2026 onwards, both 'TY - Pre Prep Priority Cohort' and 'NY - Pre Prep Priority Cohort' fields will be automatically calculated and populated accordingly.
